14 stars who have been snubbed at the Oscars — and absolutely deserve to get one

This looks like it's finally Leonardo DiCaprio's year.

The actor has been nominated for six Oscars throughout his career and has yet to win, but he's the front-runner by a mile this year for his role in "The Revenant" and could finally snag that elusive gold statuette.

But he's far from the only star who's due for the award.

Here's a list of 14 actors, filmmakers, and musicians who deserve to win an Oscar:

Leonardo DiCaprio

After receiving his first Oscar nomination in 1994 for "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," Leonardo DiCaprio's career has only gotten more prolific, but he has yet to take home the prize. 

His snubs have resulted in "Sad Leo" memes and outrage from fans, but that could change this year with his sixth (fifth for acting) Oscar nomination — best actor for "The Revenant." 

Samuel L. Jackson

Samuel L. Jackson has an enviable list of credits to his name including a number of Oscar-nominated films — but he has only ever been nominated once, and that was back in 1995 for Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction." With nine projects in the works over the next two years, maybe he'll finally get his due. 

Annette Bening

Annette Bening has been nominated four times throughout her career but has never taken an Oscar home. She was last nominated in 2011 for "The Kids Are All Right."
